Costo Help

Costochondritis guidance from someone who’s actually lived it.
1:1 video calls in English or German.

Living with ongoing chest pain is scary, exhausting, and confusing, especially when you’re told “it should settle in a couple of weeks with some ibuprofen” and it just… doesn’t.

Hi, I’m John and I’ve had costochondritis for around two years. After countless hours of research, note-taking, and careful experimentation, I figured out what makes it worse and what genuinely helps. These days it only shows up occasionally and it no longer dictates my life. You can read the full story here.

To help others move towards relief faster, I decided to offer free 30-minute video calls in my spare time.

Why I started Costo Help

Costochondritis is often brushed off as a short-lived, “mysterious” chest wall inflammation. For some, it really does fade quickly. But for many of us, it:

  • Lasts months, years, or becomes chronic
  • Comes in waves with unpredictable flare-ups
  • Affects work, exercise, sleep, and relationships
  • Creates constant anxiety: “What if this never goes away?”

I know what it feels like because I’ve lived it. I’m not a medical doctor. I’m a fellow costochondritis sufferer who has spent years tracking triggers, researching and experimenting with different approaches, and slowly improving. Costo Help is my way of sharing that experience so you don’t have to figure everything out on your own.

What we’ll discuss

Every call is tailored to you, but these are the main areas we can explore:

1. Initial Triggers

We’ll look at how your symptoms started, for example:

  • Injury, strain, or overtraining
  • Posture, coughing, infections, or illness
  • Stressful life events
  • Other “weird” things you suspect might be linked

The goal: spot patterns and possibilities you may have missed.

2. Different Types of Costo

Costochondritis isn’t always the same for everyone. We’ll talk about:

  • More “mechanical” patterns such as injury, strain, or overtraining
  • More “immune/inflammatory” patterns such as infections or immune related
  • Symptom patterns over time

I won’t diagnose you, but we’ll use this to better understand what might be going on so you can manage it and have clearer conversations with your doctors or physios.

3. Ongoing Aggravators

We’ll try to identify what keeps “poking the bear” in your daily life, such as:

  • Certain movements, sports, or exercises
  • Posture, workstation setup, and sleep position
  • Stress, tension, and breathing habits

Then we’ll brainstorm practical changes to reduce irritation and flare-ups.

4. Treatment & Management Ideas

We’ll go through what you’ve already tried and how it went, and then talk about:

  • Pacing activity vs. complete rest
  • Movement, stretching, and strengthening
  • Tracking symptoms to see patterns
  • Supplements, tools and simple home strategies

I won’t tell you what you “must” do - instead I’ll help you organise options and build a plan that feels realistic and safe to you.

5. Mentally Dealing with It

Long-term chest pain doesn’t just affect the body; it affects your mind. We can talk about:

  • Health anxiety and fear of serious illness
  • Frustration with slow progress
  • Not feeling believed or understood
  • Guilt about being less active or available
  • Building a compassionate, hopeful mindset

Who Costo Help is for

This might be right for you if:

  • You’ve had costochondritis resistant to standard medical treatment
  • You’re already been cleared/diagnosed by a doctor but still feel lost
  • You feel stuck, confused, or dismissed by the medical system
  • You want support and reassurance from someone who can relate

Important disclaimer

I am not a medical doctor and I do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. What I offer is support and guidance based on my own experience and research.

This is not for emergency situations. If you have new or worsening chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or pain that feels different from your usual pattern, contact a doctor or emergency services immediately.
